But after Steve Witkoff's meeting with Vladimir Putin, what was actually accomplished? And why does it appear that Putin is gaining the upper hand in negotiations with Washington?

The release of American citizen Stephen Hubbard has produced an extraordinary exchange, with Witkoff calling Putin a “humanitarian” and Vice President JD Vance defending his remarks. We examine what was actually said during the Putin-Witkoff meeting, including discussions about Russian diesel supplies, economic cooperation, and a potential ceasefire. Russia claims diesel prices dropped by 5–6%, while Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk directly blames Trump for fuel prices rather than Ukraine's strikes on legitimate Russian targets.

We also examine Trump's troubling statements about Starlink and sanctions, questions surrounding Jared Kushner's reported participation in the Moscow discussions, and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's powerful warning about Russia's efforts to destabilize European society. Donald Trump claims Russia could have captured Kyiv in just four hours if one Russian general hadn't made a disastrous turn into rain-soaked farmland. But Russian battlefield communications from the first day of the invasion tell a very different story—and the historical weather records directly challenge Trump's explanation.

In this special fact-check, Greg Terry examines Russian military communications describing devastating losses, Ukrainian ambushes, and defenders who were ready for the invasion. Then we investigate the actual weather around Kyiv before February 24, 2022. The analysis presented in this video shows ZERO recorded precipitation on February 23 and just 5.3 millimeters across the preceding ten days. That's nowhere near the historic rainfall Trump describes.

We break down Trump's claims about Russian tank speeds, the supposedly disastrous turn off the highway, and the assertion that unusually heavy rain prevented Russia from taking Kyiv. Using daily precipitation records, historical rainfall comparisons, and temperature data, we examine whether the weather supports his story.

And the evidence goes far beyond rainfall. Ukraine's resistance, the failed Russian air assault at Hostomel, battlefield ambushes, artillery, and Russian command and logistical failures all mattered. This wasn't simply a story about mud or one general's mistake. It was a Russian invasion that encountered determined Ukrainian defenders—and an explanation from Trump that fails to account for what actually happened.

Marco Rubio says Russia's war against Ukraine is "about Donbas." Then why are Kyiv's vital bridges and energy infrastructure being attacked? Rubio's October 22 interview with India Today raises a much bigger question: Does Washington fundamentally misunderstand what Vladimir Putin wants? The reported ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv's Southern Bridge and CHP-5 power plant expose just how dangerous it can be to reduce Russia's invasion to a territorial dispute over one region.

Meanwhile, Putin meets with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian as Russia and Iran reaffirm their partnership. Finland's President Alexander Stubb and Norway's Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre reach out to Putin about negotiations, only for the Kremlin to repeat its demands. Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov dismisses Volodymyr Zelenskyy's legitimacy and insists he should come to Moscow for direct talks.
