The Houthis are on a roll in Yemen and the Saudi’s are struggling to stop them. The last 24-48 hours have been wild with the Houthis making their largest territorial gains in years to include the capture of islands in the middle of the Red Sea. Meanwhile, we’ve learned that the US has boots on ground in Saudi Arabia helping assist in their response but has turned down Saudi requests for direct military support.

It’s best to view this as another front of the Iran war. Not only is the now threatened Bab al Mandeb Strait seen as the only maritime workaround to the closure of Hormuz but we’re watching Iran step in to help their ally the Houthis, while the US wavers on helping our ally, Saudi Arabia.

Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner went to Moscow for more than three hours of talks with Vladimir Putin—and what happened inside the Kremlin raises serious questions about how the Trump administration’s envoys are approaching Russia and the war against Ukraine.

In this update, I break down Witkoff’s extraordinary opening remarks to Putin, including a translation nuance that quickly drew attention in Russian media. I also examine Yuri Ushakov’s account of the closed-door meeting and dinner, where Putin presented the Russian version of the battlefield, repeated Moscow’s demand to address the so-called “root causes” of the war, and pushed propaganda claims about Ukraine.

The talks also went beyond Ukraine. According to the Russian account, the two sides discussed potential large-scale Russian-American economic projects. Witkoff and Kushner then left Moscow for Kyiv, where they are expected to meet Ukrainian leaders and hear directly about the reality of Russia’s war.

The central question now is whether Ukraine can challenge the narrative these American envoys heard in Moscow—and whether their visit to Kyiv changes how they understand Putin’s demands and Russia’s conduct of the war.

This morning, Putin’s forces have attacked a train traveling from Ukraine to Poland - exploding a drone on the locomotive itself which was on the same route to a nearby train carrying top British and European leadership. This is obviously a dangerous escalation and a currently developing story. Meanwhile, Russia has launched large-scale attacks near Poland’s border crossings causing explosions at gas stations in Ukraine - as some officials begin calling for an emergency shutdown of border crossings as Russia escalates into dangerous territory. Meanwhile, reports claim that a Russian drone was fired into Lithuania just hours ago violating NATO airspace enroute to Kaliningrad — however some sources contradict the report. And we also have more details on that. And we also have news from Iran, that Iranian forces in Yemen are preparing a new massive offensive against Saudi backed forces on the Red Sea coast as the situation continues spiraling out of control.

UPDATE: More details have emerged which suggest that Boris Johnson and other top NATO Officials were aboard the train that was directly In FRONT of the train that was attacked by Russia's drone. The details are still not extremely clear, but nonetheless, the core claim still holds that Russia did likely attempt to target NATO officials. Apologies for any confusion.
